Jn the stead of these two vessels the navy may obtain a supordreadnought of the most advanced type, such as the Pennsylvania, and not unequal to fotir Missippis or Idahos. This ship will cary a main battery of 12 fourteen Inch guns as against the S twelve inch guns carried by the Mis sissippi and the Idaho combined. She will have a speed of 20 5 knots as compared with a maximum of 17 knots attained by the Mississippi and Idaho. Through the concentration of her big guns in four turrents and the use of oU for fuel, she will require a cr of but 800 men, whereas each i t the old ships require a crew of 700 men.
